ATOL Protection

Your financial protection when booking a package holiday

ATOL Protected

All Wolban Travels package holidays that include flights are covered by ATOL financial protection, giving you complete peace of mind.

1. What Is ATOL?

ATOL stands for Air Travel Organiser's Licence. It is a financial protection scheme administered by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in the United Kingdom, designed to safeguard holidaymakers who purchase package holidays that include flights.

The scheme was established under the Civil Aviation Act 1982 and covers millions of travellers each year. If your travel company ceases trading or becomes insolvent before or during your holiday, ATOL protection ensures that you:

  • Will not be stranded abroad without a means to get home.
  • Will receive a full refund if you have not yet travelled.
  • Will be provided with alternative arrangements to complete your holiday where possible.

2. How Our ATOL Protection Works

Wolban Travels Limited arranges ATOL-protected package holidays in partnership with UK-licensed tour operators and airline consolidators who hold their own ATOL licences. When you book a qualifying package through us that includes flights, your booking is covered under the relevant ATOL holder's licence.

What qualifies as an ATOL-protected booking:

  • Package holidays that include flights and accommodation (and/or other travel services) arranged together at a combined price.
  • Flight-only purchases made through an ATOL-holder where a confirmed seat is not immediately secured.

What is not covered by ATOL:

  • Accommodation-only bookings (not including flights).
  • Flight-only bookings made directly with an airline where a ticket is issued immediately.
  • Train, coach, or cruise-only bookings.

3. Your ATOL Certificate

When you make an ATOL-protected booking with Wolban Travels, we will send you an ATOL Certificate along with your booking confirmation. This certificate:

  • Confirms the financial protection applying to your booking.
  • States the ATOL number of the holder protecting your trip.
  • Lists the travel arrangements covered.
  • Provides contact details for the CAA in the event of the ATOL holder's insolvency.

Please keep your ATOL Certificate in a safe place alongside your travel documents. You should take it with you on holiday.

4. How to Verify ATOL Protection

You can verify that a travel company holds a valid ATOL licence by checking the CAA's public register. This is a free, publicly available tool.

CAA ATOL Register:

Visit caa.co.uk and search "Check your ATOL" to look up any ATOL holder by name or number. Only book with companies that appear on this register for flight-inclusive packages.

5. Making a Claim Under ATOL

If a travel company ceases trading and your booking is ATOL protected, here is what to do:

  1. Do not panic. The CAA will publicise details of the failure and advise what to do next through its website and via press releases.
  2. If you are abroad: Contact the CAA's emergency helpline. Details will be on your ATOL Certificate and posted on the CAA website.
  3. If you have not yet travelled: Submit a claim to the CAA's ATOL Claims Team using your ATOL Certificate as proof of your protected booking.
  4. Keep all documentation — booking confirmation, ATOL Certificate, payment receipts, and any communication.

6. Additional Financial Protection

In addition to ATOL protection, we strongly recommend that all clients take out comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking. Travel insurance covers a wider range of risks, including:

  • Cancellation and curtailment due to illness or personal circumstances.
  • Medical expenses and emergency repatriation.
  • Lost, stolen, or delayed baggage.
  • Travel delay and missed departure.
  • Personal liability.

ATOL protection does not replace travel insurance — the two work alongside each other. Please see our Terms & Conditions for our travel insurance requirements.
